Solar Panels for Swimming Pools | Why Every Pool Owner Needs To Have Them

swimming pool solar panelsEver since I bought my first solar powered piece of pool equipment (which was a Solar-Breeze solar powered pool skimmer) I have been a solar panel frenzy, especially when it comes to solar panels for swimming pools.

My pool is the perfect place for solar panels. It gets full-on sun from dusk til dawn to keep those solar panels pumping out the energy all day long. And I’m sure most of you are in similar situations. I don’t know many people that have their pools in the shade, but I do know some and I can’t figure out why they would choose such a location.

If you are like me and have a pool that gets some good sunlight, then solar panels are a good choice for you. They are a great investment for three main reasons: they save you money, they are eco-friendly, and they will keep your pool cleaner (I will explain).

Hold Up… They Can Save Me Money?

Thats right. They sure can, and I don’t think there is a single person out there that doesn’t want to save some money one their electricity bills.

Pools can be a huge energy consumer and really skyrocket your electricity bills. This is particularly true for those who live in warmer climates where their pools are open throughout a longer season. But whether your pool is open all year round or just 3-4 months a year, the energy needed to keep pools clean and swim-able is costly.

According to a report by the Natural Resources Defense Council, in-ground swimming pools on average cost about $364/year for energy consumption. And thats just the average. Year round heated pools consume a great deal more.

In recent years the cost of buying solar panels and solar powered pool equipment has reached affordably low numbers. It just seems to be getting cheaper and cheaper. The price today is really not a very good argument of why you shouldn’t invest.

Solar powered pool equipment will save you money in the long run and usually give you your return on investment in a couple years.

The evidence of cost VS savings is pretty much unanimous… Solar Energy Wins!

An Eco-Friendly Choice

Its a growing trend that people are leaning more and more toward environmentally friendly energy sources, and this is for good reason. Every single person on earth needs to step up and make the “clean” choice every once in a while. This was a big reason why I decided to purchase solar powered pool equipment in the first place.

Solar energy is fantastic Its a clean and reliable source of energy.

Want to really reduce carbon emissions? How about you use energy from a source that produces no air or water pollution. Solar panels produce usable energy from the suns light without any waste products. So forget about nuclear and fossil fuel energy that are responsible for a great deal of earths atmosphere destruction.

And when it comes to reliability it doesn’t get any better than solar energy. The sun has been around for millions of years and will continue to be around for millions of years. Its here to stay; you don’t have  to worry about it running out like you do fossil fuels.

Want a Cleaner Pool? Of Course You Do!

I know what you are thinking, “how can solar powered pool equipment possibly make my pool cleaner?” This doesn’t really seem to make sense. But its true!

And what I am talking about here in particular is the solar powered pool skimmers, which I absolutely love. These pool skimmers just float on top of the water and suck in leaves, pine needles, and other forms of debris.

Now you might think that they will only keep the surface of your pool clean, but they make a bigger difference than that. They keep your entire pool clean, including the bottom.

You see, most of the dirt and debris that settles on the bottom started out by floating on the surface. And then when it absorbed enough water it sank to the bottom. So if you would eliminate this mess before it sank you would have never had it on the bottom of your pool, and you wouldn’t have needed to use a pool vacuum.

And remember, since they are solar powered you can keep them running all day for the incredibly low cost of $0. You probably aren’t likely to keep a normal pool skimmer running all day are you? No Way! That would be too darn expensive.

The only maintenance you have to do with floating solar powered pool skimmers is cleaning them out once they are full of debris. I think they are very much worth it for the awesome job they do.

Its Conclusive, Every Owner Needs Solar Powered Pool Equipment

It can save you money, help save the environment, and keep your pool cleaner and looking great which is sure to get you some compliments. So why wouldn’t you replace your pool equipment with the new solar powered kind. I mean, I can understand if you just bought a new piece of pool equipment and aren’t looking to replace it for years to come, but if you are thinking about replacing something soon then solar powered is the way to go.

I first purchased a solar powered pool skimmer (Solar-Breeze) after seeing a buddy of mine that had one, now I along with half the darn neighborhood have one it seems.

And why are products like this being used more and more? Well, because they are worth it.
